Acapella Cookie

I love vocal harmony, and I’ve been tripping all day on a new group I  heard on The Human Voice on KKUP this morning.  The group is BR6, and the DJ played tracks from the 2007 disc, Gershwin and Jobim, starting with a delightful medley, Waters of March/Rhapsody in Blue.

The female group Ambiance did a phenomenal acapella rendition of Rhapsody in Blue back in 1991, a full 6 minutes long (you can hear it on their website).  The BR6 rendition is shorter, but it’s fresh and bright.  Aguas de Marco (Waters of March) is one of my favorite Jobim tunes. It’s hard to beat the original  version by Jobim and Elis, and I miss the Portuguese lyrics, but it’s delightful to hear the completely acapella arrangement by this Brazilian group.  After those two classics, the DJ played They Can’t Take That Away From Me.  When I got into the office and checked the songlist on the CD and also found Fascinating Rhythm and Pato Preto, on top of the fact that it’s a 2007 CD, new music — this was better than chocolate!

If you’re in the Bay Area, check out The Human Voice on Tuesday mornings on FM 91.5.  I don’t care for everything they play, but I just catch a news story during those and flip back to see if the next song will be a new treat or an old favorite.

Today it was a huge treat, and the sugar rush kept me going all day.
