I read a lot of e-mail in the office. Send it, too. It’s very inclusive, allowing others to chime in when they have something to offer to the conversation. Other times, it’s just FYI.
This week, sitting on the sidelines, I saw this directive from one colleague to his peer:
“We should also get [them to do something].”
I stopped short. Get them to do it? How about ask them to do it? How about recommend that they do it because of the benefit they’ll get from it?
Where I’m from, if you wanna git me to do sumthin’, you gotta say please. You gotta ask me nice.
