Introduction to Meditation

Let us begin meditation

Eyes softly closed
Seated comfortably against the back of the chair
Feet on the floor
Hands on your thighs or folded in your lap.
Relax your shoulders, and
Take a few deep breaths

Inhale the peace of this space
Exhale the chatter and worry in your mind
And bring yourself into this moment.

Now begin to say your prayer word, your mantra,
With the rhythm of your breath.

If thoughts come into your mind,
as they are accustomed to doing,
Let them pass,
And gently bring yourself back to your breath,

and your prayer word.

O God of peace, who has taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and confidence shall be our strength: By the might of thy Spirit lift us, we pray, to thy presence, where we may be still and know that thou art God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
